Steve’s Action Plan

for Mason District

Steve Lee is a business owner and community leader running for Mason District Supervisor, bringing forward a new vision, fresh ideas, and a commitment to public service.

Steve is also a committed Democrat who will stand up for progressive values and work against those who want to divide our community and take us backwards. Steve will vote for policies that promote economic opportunity and fairness, protect a woman's right to make her own health care decisions, and foster a safe and welcoming environment for everyone within our diverse community.

  • Steve believes that Mason District should be the best community in all of Fairfax County to live, work, raise a family, and retire. That’s why Steve supports increasing affordable housing in Mason and throughout the county in order to encourage economic growth and development. Steve is also a proponent of “smart growth". This means creating mixed-use developments with a range of housing options and neighborhoods that are safe and walkable, while preserving open spaces and preventing sprawl.

Steve will appoint a task force to review the Annandale Comprehensive plan and will work to recruit members to the Annandale Central Business District Planning Committee. He will work with the Baileys Crossroads Seven Corners Revitalization Corporation and propose the formation of a similar group in Annandale. As an experienced business person, Steve knows land use, and as Mason District’s next supervisor, he will continue to focus on land use issues so that he can effectively serve our community and work closely with Mason District’s Planning Commissioner.

  • Steve believes that each and every one of our students in Mason District and in Fairfax County deserve the support, tools, and opportunity to learn and succeed. Our schools should not be a political or ideological battlefield. We need parents, teachers, and our community all pulling together to ensure our students learn what they need to know to be successful in school and in life.

That’s why Steve supports fully funding our public schools and will fight any effort to divert state or local funding to charter or lab schools or vouchers. Steve will work with Mason District’s school board member to support our teachers and staff, making sure they have the resources they need and that Mason District students are receiving equitable opportunities and a world class education.

Steve also believes that our schools must be a safe and healthy environment, which is why he will prioritize protecting our students from gun violence and making sure they have appropriate mental health resources and support.

  • Transparency. Listening. Public Input.

These are values that Steve believes in and that will inform how he performs his duties as Mason District Supervisor. His door will always be open, he will always listen to and meet with his constituents, and he will always solicit ideas from Mason District community members from all walks of life. On the Board of Supervisors, he will advocate for transparency and work to improve access to government services and information.

As part of this commitment, he will form a community advisory committee that brings together civic and homeowner associations, creating ways for residents to communicate with the committee and with one another via a “Mason Neighbor” online platform.

  • As an experienced business owner himself, Steve will work to develop more opportunities for local businesses and residents to support one another. Our local businesses are what help make our Mason District community rich and vibrant, not to mention the jobs and opportunities they create. Whether it’s promoting local businesses to the Mason community, encouraging local businesses to support community events, or creating job and volunteer opportunities for high school students and for older and more experienced residents, Steve will use his experience and skills to build a vibrant and successful business community in Mason District.

  • Steve immigrated to the area with his family from Korea when he was 13 years old. The Mason District is home to residents with ethnic backgrounds from all over the world, including new immigrants, second generation immigrants, and families who have lived here for generations. Steve has taken the lead on community events such as the Taste of Annandale and KORUS Festival that allow different portions of Mason District to come together and celebrate its diversity and foster a sense of community.

Steve will fight for Mason District residents to fulfill the intent of the One Fairfax policy, which commits to promoting racial and social equity and expanding opportunity for all. Steve’s efforts and votes will reflect the needs of the Mason District. For too long, proposed county policies have disproportionately and negatively impacted Mason District due to our density, historical age and development patterns, and other socio-economic factors. Mason District needs a strong voice at the table and someone who personally knows the needs of our community and our people.

  • Steve knows that Mason District desperately needs more multi-modal transportation solutions, and he has the vision to make it happen. He will create a task force to study Mason’s mass transportation routes and Metro connection routes to make Mason more easily accessible to the Metro and to make our community more pedestrian-friendly with high-visibility pedestrian sidewalks and crossings. We should encourage additional modes of transportation that offer convenience and improve the quality of life for Mason’s residents.
